Economic organizations have emphasized environmental consciousness, and the weight saving of heavy goods has been conspired in our field. Use rates of high-strength steel, which contains a lot of manganese(Mn), have increased in automobile component. Those scraps are used as the raw material of cast iron, but Mn in cast iron causes a serious problem in terms of toughness and stretch when the auto parts are produced. For this reason, lowering metallic impurities of raw materials is unavoidable. To fix the problem, we developed the refining furnace and Mn removal system.
The development project has been executed in the experiment using a rotary furnace as “Support Project for Upgrading Strategic Fundamental Technology” in 2006. In the process of the development, we found that a basic device with a ladle also could remove Mn in the same way; and then, we received research and development grant from Hiroshima Industrial Development Foundation and developed the ladle Mn removal system in 2013.

As the diagram below indicates, we inexpensively can remove Mn with the basic device which has oxy-fuel burner and cover for bubbling on a ladle.
The method we developed can remove Mn with preventing the wastage of carbon(C) and silicone(Si) as useful elements.
